Is Eglantine safe?
Where the files are supposed to come from
The readme’s download line points at GitHub releases for Djihads80/Eglantine. It also links a Discord invite. It does not name a project website. eden-emu.dev is Eden’s site. This domain is a guide. A page that says “official website” in the title is making a claim the readme does not back.
These builds are unsigned community programs. The practical risk Which Forks describes is a repack that says “optimized” and bundles keys, firmware or games. I have no virus-scanner report to quote, so I will not write “clean.” The check you can do without one is: download only from that release list, match the file name to the tag, and skip one-click archives from anywhere else.
Three domains that are not in the readme
The earlier 2026-11-07 research capture recorded these three sites. Review-time requests confirmed eglantineemulator.com, while the other two returned 403; their quoted titles remain single-site snapshots. eglantineemulator.com titled itself “Eglantine Emulator: Free Switch 2 Emulator (Download 2026)” and talked about Build 204 while linking the GitHub user. eglantine-emulator.com titled itself “Eglantine Emulator [OFFICIAL]” and pointed at v0.1.0-rc1, the release whose own title says DONT USE. eglantineofficial.com used “Official Website” in the title and also linked GitHub. None of those hostnames appear in the readme. Build 204 is a real tag from 4 Nov 2026, and it is not the newest file set. Quoting an old build on a site the project does not list is a reason to leave.
Questions
Does GitHub mean the exe is safe?
It means the file matches what that repository published. It does not mean a third party scanned it, and it does not mean a repack with the same icon is the same file.
Someone said the GitHub zip is a virus. What now?
Compare the file name with the release you intended. Prefer the PGO or MSVC zip from the release list over a renamed archive. I do not have a scanner verdict to add.
Sources
Links from the same publisher count as one source; a community compilation counts as one source even when it contains many reports.
