Set up Eglantine

The handbook is still written for Eden. Where a folder name disagrees, I list both.

Before the first launch

The user handbook’s quick start asks for four things from a console you own: firmware exported from that console, decryption keys extracted from that console, games dumped from that console, and a network connection. On Windows it also mentions the latest Visual C++ redistributable. That last line conflicts with the MinGW PGO zip, which says it bundles its own DLLs. Pick the zip first, then follow the matching note on the download page.

Official desktop targets are Windows x86_64, Linux x86_64 and aarch64, and macOS arm64. Steam Deck uses the Linux AppImage. There is no official Android or iOS package.

Three steps the handbook actually lists

  1. Unpack the archive anywhere and start the program.
  2. The first launch says decryption keys are missing. Use Tools, then Install Decryption Keys. Install firmware from a folder or a zip with Tools, then Install Firmware.
  3. Double-click the main window to add the folder that holds your games. Set a controller under Emulation, Configure, Input.

Portable mode is a user folder next to the program. When that folder exists, the handbook says data stays there instead of the system config directory.

Choose a platform page if the first launch is the part that fails: Windows, macOS, Linux, or Steam Deck. See hardware requirements, adding games and the config folder for the next steps.

Questions

Where do keys come from?

From a console you own. This site does not host keys, firmware, or games. The explanation page is Keys and firmware.

The handbook says Eden. Is that the wrong program?

Eglantine shipped the Eden handbook and changed the program name. Folder names in those pages can still say Eden. Use the settings page for the newer eglantine folder and the older eden folder.

Links from the same publisher count as one source; a community compilation counts as one source even when it contains many reports.
